Recently our Chairman and CEO, Pat Geraghty was featured on Florida Trend Magazine talking about why Florida should accept Medicaid funds.
Geraghty mentions that there are three very compelling reasons why Florida should move forward with Medicaid expansion: tax dollars, businesses and the health system.
1. Tax Dollars – The tax dollars that make up the Medicaid Expansion funds come from Florida and go to the federal government. Geraghty states that “We want to take those dollars back to come back to Florida. It makes a lot of sense to take our own money back. “
2. Businesses – If Medicaid is underfunded, the businesses of Florida will pick up that expense. If you’re a businessperson in Florida, you care about this expansion money coming back to Florida.
3. The Health System – We want to change the health system away from fee for service, where volume and the more you do, the more you get is the standard to reimbursement based on value. A system based on high quality, cost-effective healthcare is essential to long-term sustainability.
